Makati, Philippines. The 2014 TOFARM Awarding Ceremony was held last January 30, 2015. TOFARM, which stands for The Outstanding Farmers of the Philippines, is a program of the Junior Chamber International Philippines and the Universal Harvester, Incorporated. JCI, formerly Philippine Jaycees, is the same highly respected organization that brought “The Outstanding Young Men of the Philippines (TOYM)” and “The outstanding Filipino (TOFIL).”
Among the TOFARM awardee is Mrs. Felomina Janiva from Narra, Palawan. Not new to receiving awards, she was also among the Outstanding Rural Women in 2012 and Regional Magsasaka Siyentista of Southern Luzon in 2011. Her family also bagged the Regional Gawad Saka Outstanding Farm Family in 2010. For the TOFARM, Janiva bagged the Hall of Fame Award for the Woman Farmer category, winning for three consecutive years. Hon. Senator Cynthia Villar, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Agriculture handed the award with Mr. Rommel Cunanan, TOFARM Program Director and Dr. Milagros Ong-How, Executive Vice President of Universal Harvester, Inc. Senator Grace Poe also graced the occasion and served as the Key Note Speaker.
The Regional Office was also given recognition for the promotion and support to the award-giving-body’s advocacy in promoting the welfare of the Filipino farmers. Ronie Panoy, OIC-RTD for Operations, accepted the plaque and certificate in behalf of the agency. RTD Panoy, proudly received the first recognition for the Regional Office for the year 2015 and is optimistic that more awards will follow.
