The delegates to the 10th National Corn Congress held in Cagayan de Oro City. The delegates pose with their thumbs-up as the DA-MIMAROPA Corn Team was awarded as the Best Regional Corn Team during the Corn Quality Achievers Award during the 10th National Corn Congress.
As part of our government’s effort to promote corn as one of our alternative staples, the Philippine Maize Federation, Inc., together with the Department of Agriculture spearheaded the 9th Philippine National Corn Congress (PNCC) held at Atrium, LimKetKai Center, Cagayan De Oro City last November 17 to 21, 2014.
Its primary goal was to gather all the key players and stakeholders of the corn industry. One of which is the Corn Mechanization Industry. Various farm machinery suppliers have shown their support by showcasing new agricultural machineries that can be used for intensive and efficient corn production.
The Congress was attended by approximately 1,500 corn planters coming from different regions in the country as well as high ranking officials from the different government agencies. For the second time, the event also served as a venue for recognizing Local Government Units with outstanding contribution to the corn industry.
MIMAROPA region bagged the award for best Regional Corn Team for producing the top province – which is Occidental Mindoro. The municipalities of Sablayan and Mamburao also received awards for being in the top 10 municipalities of the entire country. For the region, a total of eight provincial and municipal LGU personnel from the Agricultural wing of their respective municipalities (Municipal Agriculturist, Corn Coordinators and AEWs) were given recognition that day. Winners have received plaques of recognition and cash prizes amounting to 20,000.00 for Corn Technicians, 30,000.00 both for Municipal Corn Coordinators and Municipal Agriculturists, and 40,000.00 for Provincial Corn Coordinators. Outstanding Municipalities have won 1M-worth of project while Outstanding Provinces have won 3M-worth of project. The award not only recognizes the corn industry players for high produce but more importantly for a more quality produce. The MIMAROPA region had a total of 65 delegates who attended and participated in the congress.
The three-day-event was celebrated with the theme “Corn Farming in the ASEAN Integration Maximizing Opportunities”.
